Kodiak AI has integrated HAAS Alert’s Safety Cloud digital alerting platform into its autonomous trucking solution to deliver real-time safety notifications to approaching vehicles and motorists.
Under the collaboration, Kodiak-equipped autonomous trucks will use Safety Cloud to automatically send digital alerts to notify nearby drivers when a Kodiak vehicle is stopped on the shoulder. These alerts are delivered directly to compatible in-vehicle systems and navigation apps, providing beyond-line-of-sight information aimed at enhancing roadway safety.
Safety Cloud sends digital alerts via the cellular network to motorists through vehicle infotainment screens or apps, and studies indicate that drivers receiving Safety Cloud alerts reduce their speed by an average of 17%, giving motorists extra time to make safer driving decisions.
The integration is positioned as an additional layer of safety that complements existing regulatory frameworks, including a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration waiver allowing the use of cab-mounted warning beacons on disabled autonomous trucks.
