In an effort to both electrify the commercial truck sector and educate fleets on its benefits, Navistar has announced the availability of its electric International eMV Series trucks, as well as the NEXTperience trailer, a mobile unit that will offer eMobility training sessions to dealers and customers at this year’s ACT Expo.

The eMV was built to the same standards as the diesel MV truck and was designed for straight rail applications. Available in four different wheelbase options (217, 236, 254, and 272 inches) and featuring the Diamond Logic electrical system as standard equipment, the eMV is now in production and available for order.

The eMV’s battery-electric motor provides peak power of more than 335 hp or 250 kilowatts, with continuous power of 215 hp or 160 kW. Its 210kW capacity high-voltage batteries, which provide a 135-mile range, are stored between the framerails for additional protection and come with a five-year/100,000-mile warranty. Equipped with three levels of regenerative braking, the truck is able to collect kinetic energy from braking and store it in the battery for immediate use. A state-of-the-art digital instrument cluster also provides information on propulsion and regenerative load, state of charge, and regenerative braking to give the driver a quick performance overview.

While the International eMV also offers both AC and DC charging capabilities as standard equipment, the OEM recommends Level 2 AC overnight charging, which provides approximately 19.2 kW of power. The DC Fast Charge station option provides up to 125 kilowatt hours of power, has the capability to provide multiple power options, and can provide a full charge in under two hours at its highest kWh input.

Navistar also brought its NEXTperience trailer to ACT Expo, a mobile educational unit that will offer training to dealers and fleets from the OEM’s NEXT eMobility Solutions team. The trailer will be used for sales, service, and training events to create a cross-functional experience and is expected to launch early 2022. The NEXTperience trailer will enable Navistar to connect dealers and customers on educational topics necessary to advance the adoption of electrification within the trucking industry. This all-inclusive customer experience ranges from the introduction of electric vehicles to the end of battery life.

“The NEXTperience mobile trailer concept is an all-inclusive opportunity to involve many parties in eMobility technologies, implementation strategies and deployment,” said Jason Gies, vice president, eMobility Business Development. “By connecting dealers and customers, we are ensuring that everyone is fully prepared and educated on EV technologies that are rapidly gaining momentum within the commercial vehicle industry.”

The NEXTperience trailer is currently positioned to provide:

  • Sales Training
  • Customer meetings and events
  • Dealer and customer high voltage safety and lockout tagout (LOTO) training
  • Dealer Service Technician certification
  • Local community zero emissions and safety training
  • Driver training
  • Charger training

The NEXT eMobility Solutions team is a resource for customers on zero-emissions education and consultation, continuing through vehicle end of life. It supports fleets throughout the electrification process on issues such as requirements for proper charging, suitable infrastructure partners, charging installations, and collaborations with local power companies to ensure adequate power is available for vehicle charging.

“The entire Navistar team is proud of our progress in eMobility and our thoughtful approach on accelerating the adoption of zero emissions vehicles.”

“The entire Navistar team is proud of our progress in eMobility and our thoughtful approach on accelerating the adoption of zero emissions vehicles,” said Gary Horvat, vice president, eMobility. “We are centered around providing a complete ecosystem solution that will allow our customers to seamlessly integrate our EVs into their fleets and are confident the eMV will provide an extremely positive total ownership experience.”
