Volvo Trucks North America has launched a new partnership with the Center for Pet Safety to promote safer, more comfortable travel for professional truck drivers and their pets, an important group of passengers in long-haul transportation.

According to industry data, more than 60% of truck drivers are pet owners, and nearly 40% bring their pets on the road. For many drivers, a pet provides companionship and a sense of home on long routes. The new collaboration aims to help them make informed decisions to ensure their pets’ safety and well-being while traveling.

“Safety is in our DNA, and that extends to everyone on the road — whether they have two legs or four,” said Maddie Sullivan, product marketing manager at Volvo Trucks North America. “We’re proud to partner with the Center for Pet Safety to better understand how drivers travel with their pets and to share practical guidance that supports their comfort and safety.”

As part of the initiative, pet safety experts will visit the Volvo Customer Center in Dublin, Virginia, to assess how the all-new Volvo VNL supports safe pet travel. Their review will include features such as the Volvo Parking Cooler and connected cab technologies that help maintain optimal in-cab temperatures.

For drivers who may need to leave pets in the cab during short stops, the system allows remote monitoring and control of cabin temperature through a connected app, ensuring a comfortable environment for animals in all weather conditions.

The partnership also includes the creation of a digital guide for drivers traveling with pets, set to launch in early 2026. The online resource will provide practical recommendations on in-cab setup, restraint systems, health and wellness planning, and a directory of pet-friendly rest areas across the U.S.

“We’re excited to collaborate with Volvo Trucks to spotlight the unique needs of commercial drivers traveling with their pets,” said Lindsey Wolko, founder and CEO of the Center for Pet Safety. “By combining Volvo’s engineering leadership with our rigorous safety standards, this partnership will deliver practical guidance and product recommendations tailored to long-haul drivers.”

Founded in 2011, the Center for Pet Safety is a nonprofit research and advocacy organization dedicated to improving the safety and well-being of companion animals through scientific testing and consumer education.
