Volvo Trucks North America has officially begun production of its all-new Volvo VNR regional haul truck at the company’s New River Valley Plant in Dublin, Virginia. The start of production follows the model’s unveiling in 2025 and marks the rollout of the next generation of Volvo’s regional platform for the North American market.
Volvo says the redesigned VNR features approximately 90% new components and a completely updated architecture compared with the previous model. The truck is engineered specifically for regional and urban delivery applications, with a focus on maneuverability, visibility, safety and overall fleet productivity.
“The all-new Volvo VNR was designed specifically for the demands of regional and urban operations,” said Peter Voorhoeve, president, Volvo Trucks North America, in the company’s announcement. “Starting production at our New River Valley Plant marks an important milestone as we bring this next-generation regional truck to our customers.”
The new VNR delivers up to 7.5% improved fuel efficiency over its predecessor, driven by aerodynamic enhancements and powertrain advancements. Volvo states the updates are intended to help fleets reduce operating costs while supporting sustainability goals. The truck also incorporates new safety and driver-focused features designed to enhance performance in congested urban and regional environments.
Production is taking place at Volvo’s New River Valley Plant, the company’s largest manufacturing facility globally and the site where all Volvo Trucks for North America are assembled. The plant recently underwent significant upgrades, including the addition of a new cab welding facility and other manufacturing enhancements to support Volvo’s latest truck platforms.
Customer deliveries of the new Volvo VNR are now beginning as production ramps up at the Virginia facility.
