As we reach the end of 2019, it’s clear that this was a momentous year for clean transportation. Fleets across the nation continue to make major public commitments to procuring renewable fuels and deploying low- and zero-emission vehicles. In parallel, OEMs are working to bring advanced technologies to the market at speeds never before seen in the industry. Driven by the growing global focus on climate protection and corporate sustainability commitments, increasing emissions regulations in major markets worldwide, and opportunities to reduce cost, these collective drivers are requiring all players in the transportation market to innovate and evolve in order to remain competitive and relevant.

The stage is set for the 10th annual Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo, taking place at the Long Beach Convention Center in Southern California from May 11 to 14, 2020. Thousands of transportation executives will convene to catch up on the latest technologies, fuels, and policies driving economic and environmental sustainability on our roadways. ACT Expo sponsors and exhibitors represent more than 250 leading OEMs, fuel suppliers, infrastructure developers, and technology providers, including our 2020 presenting sponsors Daimler Trucks North America, Penske Transportation Solutions, and Shell.

Attendees will have the opportunity to see vehicle debuts as they happen live on the show floor and hear from the nation’s top fleet executives as they share insights and major announcements on the main stage. To shape four-days’ worth of fleet-focused, industry-leading content, we’ve partnered with the industry’s most progressive fleets—including UPS, FedEx, PepsiCo, and more than a dozen others—as well as the top experts in advanced transportation technologies and efficiency improvements, including the North American Council for Freight Efficiency.

Connected Technology

Fleets large and small are realizing opportunities to improve routing, reduce fuel use and emissions, and avoid maintenance issues by implementing connected vehicle technologies. ACT Expo attendees will gain insight into how fleets across sectors—including municipal, over-the-road, and private light duty fleets—are leveraging dynamic routing, remote diagnostics, and other cutting-edge technology to improve safety and compliance while reducing emissions and maximizing efficiency.

Renewable Fuels + Near-Zero Emission

Renewable fuels have been a sustainable option for fleets across vocations to meet their emissions and cost reduction goals—from pure biofuels and blends, to renewable hydrogen, propane autogas, natural gas, and low-carbon, drop-in replacements including renewable diesel. ACT Expo attendees will learn why leading fleets like UPS have doubled down on their investments in renewable fuels and near-zero emission engine technologies, as well as gain insight into the innovations that continue to drive the industry forward. Two parallel workshops will be held at ACT Expo to focus on heavy-duty natural gas and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles for the commercial fleet sector.

Electric Vehicles

Fleets across the heavy-duty vehicle spectrum have waited with bated breath for the arrival of zero emission electric technology. The suspense has ended—2019 marked the year of major announcements from new players to the world’s largest truck manufacturers. ACT Expo will showcase a range of early fleet adopters relaying experiences and lessons learned in the first year of operating these vehicles. A series of workshops will provide a deep dive into topics such as a heavy-duty battery electric vehicle charging and hydrogen truck fueling infrastructure development, battery technology issues, and overall best practices for both battery and hydrogen fuel cell electric fleet vehicle project deployment.

Funding Opportunities

The last year has also seen global investment in advanced technologies and alternative fuels on an unprecedented scale. Global OEMs, fuel and infrastructure providers, tier one suppliers, government agencies, utilities, and end-users are stepping up investments in clean and advanced technologies like never before. ACT Expo’s Funding Workshop will help fleets understand how to navigate funding opportunities and leverage the billions of dollars in grants, incentives, and private capital flowing into the market.

Workforce Development

While the accelerated momentum we’re seeing is exciting, it’s critical to remember that every new technology brings with it a set of new training requirements. ACT Expo presents an incredible opportunity to hear from early innovation pioneers who learned by doing when no “manual” or set of best practices existed.
