McLeod Software has completed its integration of Aurora Innovation’s autonomous driving system, the Aurora Driver, enabling carriers to access autonomous truck capacity directly through McLeod’s transportation management system. The API integration was delivered ahead of schedule and is now available to eligible customers.
With the integration live, carriers that use McLeod’s TMS and have access to Aurora Driver can book, tender, and manage autonomous freight within the same systems they already rely on for conventional operations. The companies said the approach allows autonomous trucking to be incorporated into daily workflows without requiring new tools or separate platforms.
McLeod Software founder and CEO Tom McLeod said the early completion reflects growing interest from carriers looking to adopt autonomous technology in a practical way. He said the integration places autonomous trucking capacity directly into the hands of customers through their existing TMS, marking a first for the industry.
Aurora President Ossa Fisher said the integration helps move autonomous trucking from a standalone technology into an operational service. By connecting Aurora Driver with McLeod’s platform, Fisher said carriers can begin using driverless trucks while continuing to plan and manage freight in familiar systems.
Russell Transport, a long-time McLeod customer, is already using the integration to tender autonomous loads. Rami Abdeljaber, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Russell Transport, said the capability allows the company to access autonomous capacity while keeping current processes in place.
Through the integration, dispatchers can tender autonomous shipments using standard McLeod TMS screens, while receiving real-time location data and automated shipment status updates from Aurora Driver throughout the trip.
