Volvo Trucks North America has introduced a new service contract that combines preventive maintenance and major powertrain repairs into a single monthly payment, giving fleets another way to manage operating costs and reduce unexpected maintenance expenses.
The Silver Service Contract, announced October 19 at the American Trucking Associations’ 2026 Management Conference & Exhibition in Charlotte, North Carolina, expands Volvo’s connected maintenance offerings to include repairs to major driveline components. The program is available to eligible customers in the United States and Canada through Volvo’s network of nearly 400 authorized dealers.
“Maintenance and powertrain repairs are the two largest and least predictable costs a fleet carries, and with the Silver Service Contract they sit inside a single monthly payment,” said Peter Voorhoeve, president, Volvo Trucks North America. “That is real peace of mind. Customers gain greater cost predictability for powertrain repairs and maintenance, backed by Volvo’s service network and support, helping them maximize uptime, reduce unexpected disruptions and stay focused on running their business.”
The new contract builds on Volvo’s Blue Service Contract, introduced in 2024, which uses connected vehicle data and artificial intelligence to develop maintenance schedules based on actual truck operating conditions.
Rather than relying exclusively on fixed service intervals, the connected system monitors powertrain operating conditions and adjusts maintenance schedules accordingly. Trucks operating under more demanding conditions may require earlier service, while vehicles experiencing less demanding operation may qualify for extended intervals between oil changes.
Silver adds repair coverage for the engine, engine aftertreatment system, transmission, clutch and select chassis driveline components. Coverage also includes the clutch lining kit as a wearable component.
The contract incorporates the preventive maintenance services included in the Blue program, such as engine oil and filter changes, fuel filter replacements, chassis lubrication, oil sample analysis and multipoint inspections. Additional scheduled operations include diesel particulate filter cleaning, transmission and axle fluid service, and maintenance of diesel exhaust fluid system components, depending on contract mileage.
A central part of the Silver Service Contract is the assignment of a dedicated Volvo Fleet Manager at the customer’s certified dealership. This individual coordinates maintenance schedules using information transmitted directly from connected trucks and serves as the fleet’s primary contact for service planning.
The Fleet Manager also coordinates service campaigns, recalls and over-the-air software updates. When a truck experiences a breakdown away from its home dealership, the Fleet Manager can work with the servicing dealer through Volvo Action Service, the manufacturer’s 24/7 roadside assistance and service coordination network.
Volvo’s service approach also allows preventive maintenance that is due to be performed during an unplanned repair visit, potentially reducing the number of separate shop visits required. Service work is completed by certified Volvo technicians using genuine or authorized parts.
For fleets financing vehicles through Volvo Financial Services, the cost of the Silver Service Contract can be incorporated into the truck payment. The service contract cost can be spread across the financing period interest-free, combining vehicle financing and maintenance expenses into a single monthly payment.
The Silver Service Contract is available for the all-new Volvo VNL and all-new Volvo VNR. It joins the company’s existing Blue Service Contract for connected preventive maintenance and Gold Service Contract, which provides comprehensive service coverage with the purchase of a Volvo VNR Electric.
Customers can also select optional services, including annual DOT inspections, on-site maintenance, vehicle pickup and delivery, and other dealer-provided services, depending on availability.
