Suburban Propane recently teamed up with the Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey and the Women in Trucking Association to host “Trucks are for Girls: Fueling the Future,” an interactive career exploration event aimed at inspiring girls to pursue futures in energy, sustainability, and transportation.
Held at Suburban Propane’s national headquarters in Whippany, New Jersey, the event brought together Girl Scouts from across the region for a hands-on evening of learning, leadership, and innovation. Participants explored how Suburban Propane supports communities through clean energy solutions and engaged in breakout sessions on science, entrepreneurship, and technology.
Girls climbed aboard a propane delivery truck, tested driving skills on the Women in Trucking Association’s WITney simulator, and took part in career chats with women leaders from Suburban Propane across its technology, accounting, marketing, and legal departments. They also collaborated to develop cookie campaigns with a social-impact focus — an exercise blending business strategy with community engagement.
“Suburban Propane is proud to partner with the Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey to inspire the next generation of innovators, leaders, and changemakers,” said Fran Cleffi, Vice President of Human Resources at Suburban Propane. “Through Trucks are for Girls: Fueling the Future, we hope to empower young girls to see themselves in industries that are driving America’s energy transformation.”
Sandra A. Kenoff, President and CEO of the Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey, praised the collaboration, noting that it offered girls the chance to explore “nontraditional” career paths and meet mentors leading in transportation and logistics.
The event was held as part of SuburbanCares, the company’s national community outreach initiative supporting education, youth empowerment, and local engagement across its 42-state footprint.
