Hexagon Agility recently signed a three-year exclusive agreement to supply complete compressed natural gas fuel systems for IVECO BUS natural gas and biomethane transit vehicles worldwide.

The agreement extends a two-decade relationship between the companies that has supported the production of more than 10,000 CNG buses. Hexagon Agility will provide systems incorporating its carbon-fiber Type 4 cylinders across IVECO BUS’s global CNG vehicle range.

IVECO BUS markets transit vehicles in Europe, Latin America, Asia-Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East. Its broader product portfolio includes battery-electric, hydrogen fuel cell, hybrid, natural gas, biomethane, and biofuel vehicles, allowing transit operators to select technologies based on local infrastructure and operating requirements.

Eric Bippus, chief commercial officer at Hexagon Agility, said transit agencies are increasingly adopting portfolios that combine battery-electric and natural gas buses, “matching the right technology to the needs of each route and region.”

That approach allows agencies to evaluate vehicle technologies based on route length, passenger capacity, available infrastructure, local fuel supply, and operating costs rather than relying on a single powertrain across an entire fleet.

Hexagon Agility’s Type 4 cylinders use a nonmetallic liner wrapped in carbon-fiber composite materials. The company says the cylinders weigh approximately 30% as much as comparable steel cylinders, helping reduce the weight of onboard fuel storage systems. The agreement covers complete fuel systems rather than cylinders alone, including the storage and fuel-delivery components required for integration into IVECO BUS vehicles.
