Volvo Trucks North America has surpassed a major milestone in its heavy-duty electrification efforts, with more than 700 Volvo VNR Electric trucks now in operation across the U.S. and Canada. These vehicles have collectively logged more than 20 million miles with zero tailpipe emissions and eliminated an estimated 34,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions, equivalent to removing approximately 7,000 passenger cars from the road for a year.
Since introducing its first electric trucks in 2019, Volvo Trucks has delivered more than 5,700 battery-electric vehicles across 50 countries, logging more than 155 million miles globally.
“Reaching this milestone is a testament to our customers’ commitment to sustainable transportation and our dealer network’s dedication to supporting them every step of the way,” said Peter Voorhoeve, president of Volvo Trucks North America, noting that the company remains focused on advancing zero-emission and fuel-efficient combustion engine solutions to balance environmental and operational needs.
Volvo’s Certified EV Dealer program has also expanded to 83 locations across 33 states and four Canadian provinces since its launch in 2021. Each certified dealership completes technical training and facility upgrades to handle the sale, service, and maintenance of battery-electric trucks. Thirteen additional locations are currently working toward certification.
Alongside its battery-electric models, Volvo Trucks continues to advance efficiency improvements across its combustion engine vehicles. The new Volvo VNL model provides up to 10% better fuel efficiency compared to the previous generation, potentially saving about 1,300 gallons of fuel annually for a truck that travels 120,000 miles per year and cutting approximately 30,000 pounds of CO₂ emissions.
Volvo’s overall decarbonization approach includes three parallel paths: battery-electric vehicles, fuel-cell electric vehicles, and fuel-efficient internal combustion engines capable of operating on renewable fuels.
